Happy Monday! I found this guy (dead, unfortunately) under my house about a year ago and I’ve been meaning to take photos of it ever since and finally got around to it. And wow I am so glad I did, so beautiful. You might see this guy again in future macro Mondays, he is just so cool!
According to Wikipedia “The huhu beetle (Prionoplus reticularis) is a longhorn beetle endemic to New Zealand. It is the heaviest beetle found in New Zealand.” If I am reading this article right, the up to 7 cm long larvae (that likes to eat dead wood and probably my floor) … live for 2-3 years but following pupation and emergence, the adult beetle does not eat and lives for approximately two weeks.
Have a fab day! 🙂 Thanks for visiting.
