
Happy Monday! This magnificent little dude is a Zorion australe aka Flower longhorn beetle which is endemic to New Zealand.
You’ll find Some cool facts about Zorion/longhorn beetles on this page, they include but aren’t limited to,
- They’re widespread throughout New Zealand.
- Adults are 3-7mm in length.
- Males have longer antennae but females are overall significantly larger.
- They’re great fliers.
- Have one golden spot on each hardened forewing.
- They mate and feed on flowers, feeding on the nectar and pollen.
- They’re important pollinators of native plants including flax/harakeke.
- There are 10 extant species in the Zorion genus, all of which are endemic to New Zealand.
