Macro Monday – February 19th 2024 – Pinguicula x Weser

Happy Monday! Today’s photo is of the beautiful Pinguicula x Weser (Butterwort/Carnivorous Plant), which is is a hybrid of P. ehlersiae and P. moranensis. Registered as a cultivar in 1998, it received its name after a the River Weser in Germany (which was near where the original grower lived).

The leaves can be anywhere from green to bright pink depending on light intensity, it will turn pink with time under intense light. The plant produces beautiful bright fuchsia pink flowers.

As a carnivorous plant, Pinguicula Weser captures and digests small insects with its sticky dew produced on its leaves.

This beauty was sent down by Sue in Nelson (who if you’re looking for carnivorous plants or garden art, can be contacted via Facebook and Trademe – gypsi11 ).

Thanks for visiting. Have a wonderful week. 🙂
