The classic red-billed gull or tarāpunga, (also known as silver gull, tarapunga, mackerel gull, Jackie (Chathams), akiaki, seagull, redbilled gull, red billed gull), are found in most coastal locations throughout New Zealand. They are also commonly found in towns, scavenging on human refuse and offal from fish and meat processing works. They are seldom found inland.
